Spurs Boss Thomas Frank Labels Vicario Critics 'Not Genuine Fans'

The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Tottenham and Increase Pressure on the Manager

Spurs fans who booed keeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed later "they can't be real Tottenham supporters" by boss Thomas Frank.

Spurs conceded two scores in the opening initial moments to lose 2-1 to Fulham, marking their tenth Premier League home defeat of the year.

However the main talking point was Fulham's second goal when the keeper lost possession well beyond his box.

The goalkeeper came out to handle a long ball and carried the ball near the sideline.

But, instead of kicking it out of play, the Italian turned and attempted to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

The forward passed the ball off to Wales midfield player Wilson, who bent a shot into the net from the touchline measured at thirty-six point six yards.

Moments later when the ball came to Vicario once more, some Tottenham supporters booed him.

Spurs were booed off at half-time, with the club 2-0 behind, and again at full-time.

A particular of those booing episodes really irritated the manager.

"It came to my attention some of our supporters reportedly jeered the situation and jeered following, which, in my view is totally unacceptable," the Dane stated regarding the fans' response to his shot-stopper.

"Those individuals can't be true Spurs supporters that do that. Fair enough jeering following the match, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing one another, we are with one another moving ahead."

Tete had handed Fulham a early advantage prior to Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Spurs in an improved second period performance.

Ex- Premier League keeper Hart stated that the second goal was "totally preventable".

"I do understand the fans' frustration," Hart added. "I am aware the part Vicario is performing. He is a great squad member, he is a real leader in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your decisions.

"He was heavily involved in what ended up to be the winning score."

'It is Part of Football, I Can Handle It'

Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Game

Italian international the keeper is in his 3rd season with Tottenham.

He stated after the match that he had to take the criticism.

"The second goal was a mistake of my own, I take accountability for that," he commented.

"My aim was to clear the ball far and I simply hit the ball in a bad manner. It was an more difficult mountain to climb."

He said receiving jeers "is part of the game".

"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he continued. "We cannot be affected by the situation in the crowd. The fans have the entitlement to do what they think.

"It's on us to remain increasingly composed, to focus on ourselves. We are missing in composure and poise to reverse outcomes. This match is a bad defeat and it's tough to accept."

'It Shocked Me Nobody Went Back to the Goal Line'

In spite of Vicario's mistake, it was not an simple goal for Harry Wilson to convert.

In fact it was the next longest-range Premier League goal of the campaign – following Adams' forty-three point three yard strike for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which incidentally also occurred on the same day.

Wilson stated he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an open net to aim for.

Ten moments passed between Vicario coming out of his box and the midfielder shooting – which was five seconds following the clearance.

"I felt like the keeper was away from the area for ages," he remarked.

"It amazed me not one of the back four went back to the line. When none of them defended the net, my eyes sparked somewhat.

"[Destiny] Udogie fell too, which allowed me a little additional time. After that it was solely about attempting to achieve the right connection and place it on target. I felt a positive sense, as soon as it came off my boot, that it was heading in."

'During in a Bad Spell, All Appears to Work Against You'

Booing Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unacceptable - Frank

While the keeper's mistake led coverage, this was an all-round poor day for Spurs to extend their home woes.

The match was their tenth home loss of 2025 in the league, a joint team statistic matching 1994 and 2003.

They still have home games against Frank's former club Brentford and title holders Liverpool to play before the close of the year.

Just a single of those wins have come after the manager took over from Ange Postecoglou in the summer.

"If you are behind 2-0 following six minutes, there is a huge challenge to climb," said the boss.

"When you're in a bad spell, everything seems to go against you as well – the opening was a deflected shot, the second is a error from Vic.

"This result leaves us in a position where we have lost an additional game. Each fixture has a single story, today we lost in the early stages.

"We just need to continue striving. The second half was much better and with luck an aspect we can use to develop."

Tottenham have been defeated in 4 consecutive home capital clashes for the initial time in the Premier League.

And they are averaging 9.5 attempts and three point two efforts on goal per match in the division – their lowest averages on record in a one season (since at least the 2003-04 season).

Ex- Fulham midfield player Danny Murphy stated that Frank has to ride the storm.

"He's got take the stick," Murphy remarked. "He's accepted a high profile role at a huge football club with massive anticipation. There is pressure and responsibility that accompanies that.

"Their showings at home have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
