A high-ranking Russian military figure has been declared dead following an detonation in Moscow, according to official statements.

The attack took place on Monday morning when an explosive device placed beneath a vehicle was set off, causing the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.

Sarvarov was the head of the armed forces' department for training operations.

Investigators mentioned that one possible explanation points to the potential involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. To date, Ukraine has offered no public response.

Site of the Incident

Personnel have been sent to the scene, which is reportedly in a southerly district of the metropolis.

Reports indicate the blast occurred in a vehicle lot close to a residential building.

Pattern of Targeted Attacks

Since the beginning of the full-scale conflict in Ukraine, a series of Russian military officials have been subjected to assaults within Moscow.

This most recent event comes after other notable incidents, including:

  • General Yaroslav Moskalik was killed in a car bomb attack in Moscow earlier this year.
  • General Igor Kirillov died in late 2024 when a explosive placed on a scooter was set off from a distance.

While a informant previously connected Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such allegations are not publicly admitted as a matter of standard practice.

The conflict has increasingly seen covert operations moving into the streets of the Russian capital.

The probe into General Sarvarov's death is still ongoing.
